National Projects

These nation-wide initiatives are using FieldScope to visualize large datasets contributed by citizen science volunteers.

Project BudBurst

Project BudBurst

Project BudBurst is a network of volunteers across the United States who monitor plants by collecting important ecological data based on the timing of leafing, flowering, and fruiting of plants, also known as plant phenophases. Explore the FIeldScope map of Project BudBurst data, then consider joining the project!

FrogWatch USA

FrogWatch USA

FrogWatch USA is a citizen science program that invites individuals and families to learn about the wetlands in their communities and help conserve amphibians by reporting the calls of local frogs and toads. Use FieldScope to see where volunteers are reporting data in your community.

Regional Projects

Citizen science programs and initiatives in different regions are using FieldScope as a tool for visualizing, sharing, analyzing, and interpreting data.

Chesapeake Bay Water Quality

Chesapeake Bay Water Quality

The Chesapeake Bay Watershed Project invites students and educators to investigate water quality issues on local and regional scales and collaborate with others across the watershed to analyze data and take action. Participants from states throughout the watershed are invited to join, including: VA, MD, WV, DE, PA, NY, and DC.

Delaware Bay Water Quality

Delaware Bay Water Quality

The Delaware Bay Watershed Project invites students and educators to investigate water quality issues on local and regional scales and collaborate with others across the watershed to analyze data and take action. Participants from states throughout the watershed are invited to join, including: DE, NJ, PA, and NY.

Great Lakes Water Quality

Great Lakes Water Quality

The Great Lakes project invites participants to explore maps and graphs and contribute water quality data from across the Great Lakes watershed region, including parts of the United States and Canada.

Yukon Water Quality

Yukon Water Quality

Participants across the Yukon River watershed in Alaska and Canada are contributing water quality data to better understand and monitor this large cross-boundary watershed area.

Maryland: Explore & Restore Your Schoolshed

Maryland: Explore & Restore Your Schoolshed

This project invites students from Maryland to share their stream studies and action projects to help restore stream health.

Mid-Atlantic Sustainable Schools

Mid-Atlantic Sustainable Schools

NatureBridge engages students in field science in our National Parks. In this project, view and analyze data collected by NatureBridge participants in Yosemite National Park and explore the geography of California.

Sharks of California

Sharks of California

This project by Ocean Sanctuaries invites volunteers and ocean enthusiasts to share their shark sightings off the coast of California.

BioBlitz Projects

Each year leading up to the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service, there are 10 planned BioBlitzes in 10 different parks (starting in 2007). The National Geographic Society has been a partner in this effort, and FieldScope has been integrated as of 2009. FieldScope is used to upload and visualize data collected by scientists and students in the field during the BioBlitz event. The 2014 event will be held in Golden Gate National Recreation Area in California.
